'He was brought up indeed - said Fergus - with his mother and his father at the Airgdig on the plain of Muirthemni. The famous stories of the  boytroop in Emain were told to him. For there are three fifties of the boytroop there - said Fergus - at their game. This is like Conchobar likes to enjoy his sovereignity: the third of the day he watches the boytroop, the second third he plays fidchille, and the other third he drinks beer until sleeps takes him. Altough we be in exile because of him there is no warrior in Ireland that would be more wonderful.
Cu Chulainn begs his mother to let him go tothe boytroop. 'You will not go' says his mother 'until there be with you the accompaniament of the warriors of Ulstermen'. 'It is to long form me for that' says Cu Chulainn ' Show to me wihich direction is Emain. 'To the north then' says his mother 'The journey is difficult' she says ' Sliab Fuait is between you'. 'I will make attempt at that' said Cu Chulainn thus.
He goes forth then, and his wooden shield with him and his rod [toy javelin] and hisn hurley stick and his ball. He was throwing the rod in front of him so that he took it by the end before the bottom would fall back to the ground.
He goes to the boys then, without binding his protection on them. For nobody would go to them till his protection would be bound. He does not know that. 'The boy outrages us' says Follomon mac Conchobuir ' altough we know it that he is from the Ulstermen'. They kept threatening him. He burst throughout them.
They threw the three fifities of javelins at him. They all stopped on the wooden shield with him. They then threw all balls at him. And he catches them, each of the balls, on his chest. They threw then the three fifties of hurley sticks at him. He wards them off so that they didn't reach him and takes load of them on his back.
He becomes distorted then. It would seem to you that it was the beating that every hair struck with the aprising tah he arose. It would seem to you that there was a spark of fire on every single hair. He closed one of his eyes so tah it was not bigger than the eye of a needle. Hel opened the other so that it was as bog as the mouth of the wooden bowl. He layed bare from his jaw to his ear. He opened his mouth so that his gullet was visible. The warrior's moon rose from the crown of his head.
Hestrikes throughout the boys then. He overthrows fifty of them before they reach the door of Emain. Nine of them put themselves between me and Conchobor; we were playing fidchill. He himself [Cu Chulainn] springs across the fidchill after the nine. Conchobor seizes his arm. 'It is not well that the boytroop is treated' says Conchobor. 'Proper to me, father Conchobor' says he. 'I have come to them to play from my house from my mother and my father and it wasn't ood that they were to me'. 'What is your name?' says Conchobor. 'Setantae macc Sualtaim happened to me, son of Dechtire your sister. It wasn't likely, my pain here'. 'Why didn't you bind your protection on the boys?' says Conchobor. 'I didn't know about that' says Cu Chulainn 'take in your hand mu protection then'. 'It is acknowledged' says Conchobor.
Therewith, he turns aside on the lads throughout the house. 'What are you then [doing] to them?' says Conchobor. 'Let their protection be bound on me'says Cu Chulainn. 'Take it in the hand then' says Conchobor. 'It is acknowleged' says Cu Chulainn. They all went to the playground then, the boys who had been struck arose now. Their foster fathers and foster mothers helped them.
