Goudulion
« dnia: Październik 10, 2008, 06:11:14 pm »
Goudulion is the country in which the biggest population of the Klamadlin lives. It is positioned just above Aquillonia. Apart from that one border, the borders of Goudulion are quite fluid. A part of the forest is in the actual territory of Aquillonia and by some is considered a part of Goudulion. The border is mainly set by the gigantic forest. It is not as wild as Trollheim or Scandazar, nevertheless, hides its own mysteries and dangers. Apart from the Klamadlin it is the home to many different tribes and races of people or creatures which originate from the human race. It is said that somewhere in the wilderness lies the land of an elven ruler (or that all of Goudulion is his). The land is covered with nature, untouched by brightmagic. It is hard to define the whole territory, as there are different parts (mountains, swamps, dales, grasslands, forests). What can be said about most parts is that it is warm and steamy. Only high in the mountains, lower temperatures can be found. Unusually rampant flora grew in this kind of conditions, creating plant that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. There are parts of Goudulion where, thanks to the weather, everything is bigger. Trees reaching high into the clouds, many meters wide, ferns bigger than people, mushrooms the size of a horse. And the more damp, the more blossomed. You can encounter extensive swamps that go on for miles and miles. Sometimes it is hard to say when you entered them but not many have came back to tell about that. There are tales that the biggest swamps are home to enormous reptiles.
Another very interesting feature are the animals living in the plains and mountains. Just like the plants, some of the animals grew a lot bigger than the other of their kind. Gigantic wolves or great wild boars are a quite usual view in Goudulion. Though they are not crazy bloodthirsty beasts, ready to tear apart anything on their way, but regular animals, living by the forces of nature. There are legends that some of them know the way to a city deep in the forest, but they have never been confirmed.
Traditional Klamadlin societies live high up in the mountains, and their favourite areas are the vertical slopes. That is where they build quite complex constructions of platforms, wrapped in lianas like cocoons. As long as no one wants to take their territory, they live in peace with the human tribes. They live their calm lives and persistently oversee the jungle. They change nothing in it, but they write down the changes that happen in it, draw out maps, they are interested in their terrain. Just like the rest of the tribes of Goudulion, they have almost no contact with the world away from the jungle. Some, who pushed by the need of knowing, ventured out further, say that it is the blessing of this place that it doesn't have much contact with the outer world. Thanks to, or because of the division, made by the border of Aquillonia from one side, mountains from two others and sea from the latter, it has never been conquered by any countries of high brightmagic. There were some tries though, and the most well known one was a few hundred years ago, when the army of Faltaana came to take Goudulion and all it's treasures and powers. They came from the side of the sea, slaughtered thousands of beings, making their way many kilometres into the jungle and... found nothing worth their attention. It was a hurtful loss, as when they began to travel back to the sea, a mysterious sickness caught their bodies, killing a huge part of the army. They died an awful undignified death. They must have believed in their own strength very much, as stories of disgusting sicknesses that one can get in the jungle, have been told many times before.
As a whole, the country seems almost sleepy with its peaceful nature. Great Bloody Intertribal  Wars happen, but their scale might seem puny, for example to the battle mages of the east of Turblanda. All has its own rhythm.
In theory, Goudulion seems to be a country of simple brightmagic, but in reality it is a place of very mighty, old powers. The problem is that the tribes living there, can't really use them well. Sometimes they feel them, build cities around them, worship them, or the other way round, they keep away or fight against them.
What these powers are, is hard to describe. It can be an ancient tree with bloody resin or it can be one of the gigantic creatures with a tribe of followers. For those living in Goudulion, most magic is based on a type of mysticism, knowledge given from the old to the young. Mighty magic is a sort of secret, which cannot be just known as a whole. An aspect of it can be used though.
Because of how divided from other countries Goudulion is, it is also a place of many refugees, runaways, who for different reasons want not to be found. There are many legends about beings hiding away in the jungle. Most very vague. It is known for sure, that many creatures never come back. It is hard to tell if it's death that they find, sickness or maybe... there is another theory, saying that they manage to find that enormous plant city in the centre of the elven rulers domain. But... certainly, if it was true, someone would have proved it?

There are many tribes in the jungle and there are many tales about them, but they are also not proved usually. It is said that in the mountains there is a tribe which lives with Great Goats. On their backs, they travel fast on the rocky slopes. Another tale is about people living in a symbiosis with wolves. Stories like that are told about many different animals. It would seem that tribes of people make pacts with particular herds of animals.
There is a tribe of giants, which are almost four meters big.
Some tribes live around quite powerful mages-shamans, even though they do not use magic themselves they use no higher magic.
There are also hermits and all-hermit families making very little or no contact with other humans.

There are a few legends about the of the Rosalba dale in Goudulion. In a way, they all go back to the story of the Ruler of Fire, who shed 10 drops of blood, and when they fell into the sea, it gained an unknown before heat, that vitalised the whole area and changed it forever.
Another legend is about the different kinds of 'humans' in Goudulion. When the climate changed so abruptly in the land near to Rosalba, the three biggest animal leaders: The Eagle, the Monkey and the Horse, decided to make a pact with the, also endangered, but weak humans. These great animal leaders decided to give their lives and also their souls, in thousands of pieces, to groups of people, who, in return, promised to take care of the herds of their smaller brothers. In exchange for that, humans received animal features that were to help them survive in the now conditions. That is the legend of the creation of the Klamadlin, who raised far above the heat of Rosalba, Turries, of which not much is known, apart from them gaining some horse features and the strange monkey people, the Uggan.
