Prologue
“...and the prince married the princess, and they had many, many children, and they all lived happily ever after.” finished the young woman holding a picture book in front of her. With a loud thump, she closed it and announced “The end!”
“I want to marry a prince too!” Twee said with a sparkle in her eye and jumped up from her spot on the floor, run up the few steps towards the woman with the book and with the element of surprise on her side grabbed the story from the baby-sitter's hands. “He’s mine!” she squealed and tried to run away with the book clutched between her arms.
Unfortunately the sitter was faster than the three year old. Not very well balanced yet, with the big wings on her back, Twee didn’t get far before the woman pulled her by the tail stopping the escape attempt. All the other children laughed and giggled as Twee fell down and the book slid out of her hands and across the floor.
A gong cut through the air silencing the ruckus for a second, before the noise erupted even louder than before. With their tails wriggling with and hands flailing some shouted “Lunch!” and started racing towards the door leaving the library behind. Soon almost all of the children were gone.
The sitter got up from the small stool she was sat on and watched Twee stand up. The child flapped her wings, pressed the creases on her tunic twice and with a pout on her face reached for the book with her chubby little fingers. Just then she saw the prince standing right next to the fairy-tale. His slightly ghostly figure smiling at her from underneath a baggy red hat with a giant feather stuck into it.
“Maybe one day, Twee”, he said with a wink and disappeared.
“Aw, why do they always tease Miss?” Twee turned to the woman, with the pout almost gone, and a hint of a smile coming back.
“Well, they’re books, that’s just how they are. Run along for lunch now.” she said taking the fairy-tale from Twee’s hands and putting it back on one of the shelves.
