Yep, that's one really intersting thing I noticed - I expected the male dancers to be quite effeminate, just the male versions of the ballerinas; in fact their styles couldn't be more different. I ended up looking forward to the parts by the main guy (a pirate prince;) far more than to the footwork of the heroine, cause his dancing was incredibly athletic, energetic and almost defying gravity. The main guy, by the way, must have been some kind of a ballet celebrity cause the audience would erupt into massive applause whenever he'd appear on stage. Plus the interesting aspect of highly exaggerated pantomime in place of dialogue - not sure how they are going to manage with Romeo and Juliet;)
